Dr. Cantañeda joined the Board in June 2018. He is a pediatrics physician with Mountain Park Helath Center at their Matryvale clinic. When hewas young he traveled by vehicle to his family’s hometown in central Mexico every summer. He witnessed the everyday struggles of his people on both sides of the border. It motivated him to pursue a career in which he could serve others. He wanted to specifically serve through medicine; as it felt like a calling. Before joining Mountain Park he paid close attention to all the work the organization was doing and how it was willing to engage with the community. He was also attracted to Mountain Park because of how much it values diversity. Working in healthcare has taught him that simply prescribing a medication won’t improve his patients’ health. He and his patients work as a team. By listening carefully to their needs he supports their sense of empowerment with their health. If He continuuusly seens to find ansers for his patients by doing his own research and by consulting other providers. He dedicates his “off work hours” to spending time with his wife and daughter. When I am at work, my time is for my patients. If he weren’t working in healthcare he would be working in construction alongside my family or as a teacher.
